CivicBrand Trip #2 Recap

The CivicBrand team visited Two Rivers in September for trip #2 of the community branding initiative. The goal of the second trip was to hold more engagement meetings with the public, lean into the brand principles and style diagnostics for the area, and get a sense of what life in Two Rivers is like outside of the summer beach season.

WOODLAND DUNES

Our first stop was a visit to Woodland Dunes Nature Center & Preserve. After hearing so much about it on our first trip to Two Rivers, we were excited to finally be able to see it for ourselves.

We visited the Nature Center and then headed out to explore the rest of the preserve. With beautiful scenery and so many diverse creatures that call it home, it’s easy to see why this is such a big asset to the area.

PUBLIC MEETING

We held a meeting at the community house that was open to the general public. We reviewed our process, went over the results of the online survey we conducted, and had attendees rank Two Rivers on several statements in comparison to surrounding communities.

CITY STAFF WORKSHOP

We held a workshop with City leaders to learn about how they use the brand in their day-to-day lives. The workshop was designed to illuminate tangible ways in which the brand can help them achieve their departmental goals.

1-ON-1 INTERVIEWS

We interviewed several local business owners to learn more about their businesses and their experience as business owners in Two Rivers. Each interview was really insightful and gave us a better look at what it’s like to start and run a business in Two Rivers and how the brand can help attract both entrepreneurs and talent.

YOUTH FOCUS GROUP

We also held a focus group with high school students and recent graduates to learn about what it’s like to grow up in Two Rivers. We talked about what they wish there was more of and how the brand might be able to help spark some of that development or change.

INKS AND DRINKS AT HAMILTON WOOD TYPE MUSEUM

We spent one evening at Hamilton’s Inks and Drinks event. We each had our own letterpress machine and got to create several posters. As a group of creatives, this was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

CHARTER BOAT FISHING

We spent one morning on a charter boat fishing on Lake Michigan, and while we only caught two fish, it was a great experience that gave us a chance to experience one of Two Rivers’ biggest industries.

ETHNIC FEST

We spent an afternoon strolling through Ethnic Fest and experiencing the different performers and vendors at the festival.

NEXT STEPS

Our team had a great time on trip two and walked away feeling more confident of the direction we are heading in. Next we’ll finalize brand principles, style diagnostics and brand goals before moving onto the design phase of the project.
